Targa Newfoundland

Hey there WheelsTV enthusiasts. As you may have noticed, we have begun to change how we do this blog a little bit and we would love your input. So, send in your comments.

I recently read about one of the coolest motorsports events in one of the coolest venues in the world. The event: Targa Newfoundland. The venue: the sweeping roads and beautiful scenery of Newfoundland. The Targa Newfoundland is one of the most outrageous races ever held and it would make any lawyer scream. Taking place on open roads temporarily closed off for the event, there is no gravel trap or safety barrier to save you if you lose control. This is racing at it's finest.

The Targa consists of three different classes. The Targa Division is made up of fully race-ready cars with roll
cages, five-point harnesses, you name it. Next is the Grand Touring Division consisting of any street-legal automobile as long as you have a license. Finally, there will be a new class added for the 5th running of the Targa Newfoundland called the Targa Tour division which is for the average car guy who loves to see some wonderful scenery while driving his beloved vehicle for more than it has in a long time.

But the love of flying through Newfoundland's quaint towns and fast bends is not the only thing that pulls people back to Newfoundland every year. The locals are some of the most welcoming and enthusiastic people one can ever meet. They are constantly inquiring about the vast array of cars informally sprawled across a parking lot. They couldn't care less that their roads are being shut down for a week. They love their motorsports.

If you want to learn more about the Targa Newfoundland including dates, rules and regs, and info from past races, click here. Or check out some pictures of past races. You'll be persuaded by the pics alone.

Alert to all you car nuts with iPods - check out VOD Cars. They have the sickest podcast out there and essential for all certified car nuts.

Thanks,

Ben
